I can probably make it possible for posts that give lat & lon coordinates to also appear on my CommunityWalk Earthquake map (http://www.communitywalk.com/map/293#).
Let me know if you'd like to do that.
I'm trying to get the word out on this, because this is a really great idea.
A friend who is a tech journalist, remarks on SMS via email:
The world's most ubiquitous digital technology...Somali pirates organise raids in the Gulf of Yemen over it...idiots chat about celebrities over it...earthquake victims send SMS over it.
More seriously, you may find the Pakistani mobile networks to be more capable than you think. Whilst I was in Singapore GrameenPhone (that's as in the microcredit people) launched the hopped-up version of GPRS, EDGE, to give the Bangladeshis 200Kbp/s mobile data. Ask your contact if they can receive MMS (Multimedia Message Service - a wanky network operator thing, but will move pics over GPRS if you can't do it by email attachment - and more people than you think can do that).
